Appearance: Shayne has a chiseled body (sculpted biceps, massive pecs, six-pack....the works). He has shoulder-length black hair that he pulls back into a pony-tail, but it usually gets knocked loose during a match. Shayne smiles a lot and likes to play to the crowd. He wears a shining vest (a-la Shawn Michaels type of vest) and his wrestling tights are solid purple, with gold lightning bolts crackling down the legs. His boots are black and he always wears black sunglasses to the ring to look as cool as possible.
Personality: He's kind of cocky. Has a belief that he is destined for greatness and sometimes exudes that confidence a tad too much. However, he is a hard worker and constantly trying to learn more about the craft. He loves working for the crowd and giving them a show.
Biography: Shayne Grissom was born on February 14, 1987 in St. Louis, MO. His family was a middle-class family that lived in a suburb of the main city. His father was a small-time indy promoter on St. Louis' east side where he routinely got gang members to work out their problems in the ring instead of drive-bys.
He comes form a long line of achievers, considering a cousin from his Father's side of the family was an astronaut that died in Apollo missions. His name was Virgil "Gus" Grissom. Shayne never met his famous cousin because Gus died decades before Shayne's birth. However, the family's desire for achieving the best continued on in the young man as he kept growing and maturing.
Shayne grew up loving the wrestling business because his Dad was involved so deeply. In 1999, Chris Hopper and Darren Smelser approached approached Thomas Grissom about becoming a road agent for their new start-up promotion that would be based out of St. Louis. Thomas agreed and Shayne began to interact with all sorts of wrestling stars while just a little kid.
Midwest Championship Wrestling became a fast-growing success and drew in some real talent. Shayne began training on the side at age 12, learning basic wrestling holds and how to share information during a match to make it the best. He also hit his growth spurt in 2000 and shot up 7 inches of height during the summer as MCW dwindled and closed due to financing problems. Shayne began his eighth grade year now standing 6'0 tall and already weighing in at 185 lbs.
He dedicated himself to the wrestling team at school. he kept growing and lifting weights. He played football and also competed in track and field for his high school. However, his passion was wrestling. He learned holds and submissions from wrestling friends of his Dad's that he turned and used in his matches. By the time he was a senior, he was a top-ranked wrestler in the heavyweight division. His coach was never happy about the bravado he showed during meets, but liked h is won/loss record.
Shayne failed two years in a row to win the state championship in greco-roman wrestling, but still graduated with a scholarship offer from Missouri to wrestle in a Division I program. Shayne spurned the scholarship and his parents desires for an education and left home to move to Indianapolis, IN and a spot in Chris Hopper's Icebox training facility.
Over the past 2 years, Shayne has learned a great deal of moves and become a great performer. He wrestled under a mask for numerous Indiana promotions to get some experience against other pro-wrestlers and has done very well. He spent five months in Phoenix Valley Wrestling and contended for the Rising Phoenix Title before a rib injury and the company having a cost-cutting hiatus took their toll.
Grissom signed on to wrestle for the ICWF and hit the ground running, quickly becoming one of the young guns the company began building its foundation around. After several months in ICWF, he fell just short of winning the annual, rookie-filled "Vingvatational" tournament, losing to former SPW alumnus CK Walker in the semifinal round of action in the 16-man tournament. Not long after that, Chris Hopper took over the company and stated that his protoge' couldn't be an active wrestler for ICWF because of potential favoritism claims. Grissom found himself unemployed yet again, but working as a trainer in their facilities until the league closed in September of 2009.
Now he has signed on to wrestle for SPW and the question is not if this blue-chip, second-generation star has what it takes to become a superstar.....the question is how long will it take for his star to shoot into the atmosphere!
